Eliminating Injustice: Working Toward Equal Opportunity in the Cannabis Industry
Last Updated on Aug 24, 2017
Like you, the 3C team watched, reeling, as a national nightmare unfolded in Charlottesville. Images of white supremacists carrying Nazi flags and wielding torches, chanting phrases of hate and menace, seemed to have been ripped from the pages of history and resurrected. Let’s be clear: there is no room, no place for this kind of rhetoric and violence. We must not turn a blind eye. The 3C team sends our condolences to those directly affected by this horrific tragedy. As socially responsible business owners we are working toward equal opportunity in the cannabis industry.
The work of racial reconciliation necessarily includes addressing the devastation brought by the well-documented school-to-prison pipeline and its “zero tolerance policies” that fill our prisons disproportionately with people of color, tearing families apart and leaving those convicted with limited opportunities to earn a living after their incarceration.
The War On Drugs
The so-called “war on drugs” has, from its inception, disproportionately targeted minorities and kept old, destructive policing tactics alive and well, filling our news feed with one devastating story after another. As cannabis entrepreneurs seek business licenses we risk excluding communities that have been disproportionately affected by cannabis prohibition, as some states prohibit individuals with prior drug charges from entering the industry. We at 3C are committed to working toward legalizing cannabis and hemp, thereby eliminating the unjust persecution of minorities via drug law and providing equal access to business opportunities and employment in the cannabis industry.
Meanwhile, we continue the work of supporting a diverse community of people as they create thriving cannabis businesses. Let’s work together to create a better world moving forward. While many like-minded people are striving to eliminate racial inequality and injustice in all areas of our society, 3c is committed to working toward equal opportunity in the cannabis industry.
